Most of you have already tried other methods. You have likely tried every tool you can think of - both good and bad ones. You likely have read books, watched other programs and maybe even tried counseling.
But they didn't seem to "work".
Well, let me be the first to tell you that after 20 years of being a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice, the traditional model of marriage counseling...DOESN'T WORK for most couples. 😯😕
Why?
Because there is no real commitment to the process, the time and tremendous effort it takes to bring real and lasting transformation. (Especially if you feel like you have already spent a lot of energy trying other ineffective ways to bring change.)
The traditional counseling model allows for you to go to a session every week or two, spend that time focusing on your problems and the past and trying to learn how to argue politely. You may even bring up past arguments from the week before that are already settled at the moment, only to bring it up again to get your therapist up to speed and then re-hash the issues all over again. Eventually, most couples find themselves giving up and not continuing for one reason or another.
For a few couples, things may go well in counseling and they learn to be nicer to one another for a few months, only to revert back to old behaviors during a conflict and are back in the office 6 months later. You don't want temporary fixes, you want real change.

Cindy has been in private practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over 20 years, where she specialized in relationships, trauma recovery and addictions.
